Be Smoke Free with Hypnosis

Believe it or not, hypnosis for smoking is one of the most common reasons a person sees a hypnotherapist for.  This is because smoking is one of the issues that hypnosis works the best for.  While there are patches, pills and gum available, they do not tackle the brain or the source of the smoking habit.  Hypnosis is particularly good at breaking habits and smoking Is no exception.  All smokers should try and undergo hypnosis.

For smoking, there are several issues to attack in the hypnosis process.  This is why it doesn’t always take just one session to create a full blown nonsmoker.  The hypnotic process must address the actual quitting of smoking and the hypnotist must put the individual into a hypnotic trance, giving them suggestions that specifically address the quitting of smoking.   These suggestions can include “Smoking is distasteful to you” or “You can throw away those cigarettes without problem” or “The smell of smoke is awful for you”.  Such suggestions begin the process of smoking cessation and make it less likely that a smoker will walk away and not take on the suggestions of the hypnosis.

For smoking, there are other issues that can make it difficult to maintain the nonsmoking habit and the greatest of these are the cravings and withdrawal symptoms that go along with quitting smoking.  Fortunately the hypnotherapist has ways of dealing with these issues and can help the smoker learn to cope with the withdrawal symptoms.  In fact, the hypnotist can make the withdrawal symptoms disappear in some clients.  The trick is to use suggestions that tackle the withdrawal symptoms and cravings like “You will feel no shakiness when you quit smoking” or “You will feel no irritability when you throw away your cigarettes” or “You will experience no cravings for cigarettes when you stop smoking.” These suggestions act on mind and body to reduce or eliminate cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Hypnosis for smoking must address all of the triggers and issues a person faces when they quit smoking.  The hypnotherapist must listen to the individual as they speak about specific triggers that they face when trying to quit smoking.  These triggers can be turned into suggestions that are given once the individual is in a hypnotic state.  Some possible triggers include “You will not feel like smoking after meals” or “You will not feel like smoking when you see someone else smoking” or “You will not feel like smoking even if your spouse smokes”.  These triggers can be overcome in such a way that the person’s mind doesn’t register them as triggers anymore.  They can be around smoker and feel like a nonsmoker, not craving a cigarette as well.

Hypnosis for smoking is both safe and effective.  Thousands of people have successfully quit smoking using hypnosis alone or adding something like the patch or gum for an added benefit.  It acts directly on the brain and changes the way an individual smoker begins to think about, feel and act around smoking.  Within a few sessions, a nonsmoker emerges.
